His program tonight will include Anthony Coleman's "East Orange," as well as Alvin Lucier's "Still LIves" and Michael Byron's "Enchanting the Stars" (from "Dreamers of Pearl"), both written for Mr. Kubera. 8/7 Saturday (JM) 8 pm Annie Gosfield: From the Chamber to the Factory—String Quartet Premiere and EWA7 The Jasper String Quartet: J Freivogel, Sae Niwa (violins) Sam Quintal (viola) Rachel Henderson Freivogel (cello) Annie Gosfield (sampling keyboards) Roger Kleier (guitar) Ches Smith (drums) The Jasper String Quartet will perform the NYC premiere of Gosfield’s new string quartet inspired by the radio transmissions of resistance groups in WWII, commissioned by the Caramoor Festival. This new work incorporates musical materials drawn from the mysterious “Messages Personnels” broadcast to the French Resistance, a silken code scarf used by Danish Resistance members, and processes of encryption. The Jasper String Quartet is the 2009-10 Ernst C. For the ones who know the French writer Fred Vargas, it will be easy to recognize the profile of Adamsberg, Danglard, Retancourt....
