The Jasper String Quartet will perform the NYC premiere of Gosfield’s new string quartet inspired by the radio transmissions of resistance groups in WWII, commissioned by the Caramoor Festival. This new work incorporates musical materials drawn from the mysterious “Messages Personnels” broadcast to the French Resistance, a silken code scarf used by Danish Resistance members, and processes of encryption. In this rare opportunity to present her chamber work alongside her band, Gosfield's trio will also perform "EWA7", a concert-length piece inspired by factory sounds originally composed and premiered in the industrial environments of Nuremberg, Germany.

This fine young string quartet will perform a program that spans from the 18th Century to the 21st Century, including a late work by the father of the string quartet (Haydn Op. 77 No. 1); Alban Berg's monumental yet cryptic Lyric Suite; and the NYC premiere of maverick Annie Gosfield's latest quartet. The Jasper String Quartet is the 2009-10 Ernst C. Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts, the graduate string quartet in residence at Yale, and will be the quartet in residence at Oberlin this fall.
