April 2013 at the Stone
curated by Matt Shipp / Jon Madof / Jamie Saft / Steve Coleman / Cyro Baptista

THE STONE RESIDENCIES
The Stone initiates a series of week-long STONE RESIDENCIES.
73 past Stone curators have each been given 6 nights / 12 sets to perform their own work at The Stone. The focus will be on presenting retrospectives, with different projects each night. It promises to be a revelatory series, so come on down to The Stone and experience an in-depth view into some of the most intensely creative and adventurous musical minds around.
After over 5000 concerts and 8 years of fierce independence in the East Village, The Stone is still going strong!

4/12 Friday (KM)
8 pm
Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz - ABRAXAS - John Zorn’s Masada: Book of Angels - Vol. 19
Eyal Maoz, Yoshie Fruchter (guitars) Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (gimbri) Kenny Grohowski (drums)
ABRAXAS: Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz steps out on his own to make one of the most primal and tribal installments in the “Book of Angels” series. Drawing on his Sephardic roots, Shanir plays gimbri throughout, giving the music a primeval Moroccan edge. Featuring the intense guitar pyrotechnics of Eyal Maoz and Yoshie Fruchter (from Edom and Pitom respectively) and the atavistic drumming of Kenny Grohowski, this is Ritualistic Jewish Rock for the 21st century by a brilliant young lion from the East Village via Brooklyn/Israel!

10 pm
Yoshie Fruchter’s Pitom
Yoshie Fruchter (guitar) Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (bass) Kevin Zubek (drums) Tom Swafford (violin)
Avant-rock meets the Jewish sound in Pitom, a shredding instrumental band led by guitarist Yoshie Fruchter. Cacophonic guitar, surly heavy metal bass and a soaring violin echo Mahavishnu and the Melvins, with catchy melodies drawing from the Jewish tradition. With two records on Tzadik, the band is rocking hard as ever, and continues to develop its unique sound in the Radical Jewish Culture scene.
